Summary: Here he is. The greatest of Great Old Ones. The guy who put H.P. Lovecraft on the map in the first place. The dread-king of R'yleh. Cthulhu...in silent stop-motion form! Uh, okay...
History: There are cults popping up throughout the less than savory parts of the world dedicated to a being known as Cthulhu. This Elder God is said to one day rise alongside his kingdom of R'yleh to drive the world insane and take it over. Some come to investigate, but what will become of their sanity when the rituals actually work and bring R'yleh up from the depths?
Notable Kills: Nothing special.
Final Fate: After being in the mortal realm for some time, Cthulhu is banished back to the depths below after a boat is rammed into his head. He's still alive of course, and works once more to influence the weak-willed, hoping to rise again without interruption this time...
Powers/Abilities: Apparent omnipotence.
Weakness: Any heavy damage will send him back to R'yleh to recuperate.
Scariness Factor: 3.5-The oddball stop-motion is honestly a matter of interpretation when it comes to scariness. On one hand, it's incredibly low-budget, and Cthulhu retains his utterly weak defeat from the original short story. On the other hand, his look is incredibly uncanny, and could scare someone based on how unnatural it all is. Mission accomplished, we say.
Trivia: -Once again, Cthulhu had some inspiration from Lovecraft's frankly damaged and painfully intolerant mind. Many have compared him and the rest of his cult to an allegory for the white man's fear of "alien races" impeding on their society. Considering how the non-white cultists are described as being just as inhuman as the mystical alien monster, that might have some merit...in a fantasy world where Lovecraft's fears are justified somehow.
-For what it's worth, Cthulhu is easily one of the most popular of Lovecraft's creations. In fact, the entirety of his and some close friends' work involving eldritch abominations and all things cosmic horror is referred to as "The Cthulhu Mythos".
